Code Enforcement:

Taking care of your property is one of the most important things you can do to protect your property value and improve the quality of life in the neighborhood.

We continuously work with the City of Charlotte Code Enforcement Division to enforce neighborhood code and zoning ordinances. We strongly encourage all residents to show respect for their neighborhoods by maintaining their property and reporting Code and Zoning violations to 311.

By reporting violations, you can help protect your investment, improve the aesthetics of the community, and combat unscrupulous real estate investors.

Keep East Charlotte Clean and Beautiful!

Charlotte East community organizations have been instrumental in getting more inspector positions and the installation of a Code Enforcement Office on Sharon Amity. These added resources had an overall positive effect on the city as a whole by reducing the size of coverage areas for the inspectors. While there may have been an overall positive effect city-wide, Charlotte East is still saturated with violations which are going unchecked, in comparison to other parts of Charlotte. We have yet to achieve the equity which we are striving for.

Since then the City has created a new boarded up structures ordinance, a new hotel/motel ordinance, new occupancy standards, new signage rules and most recently a new text amendment for mobile food vendors. Weekend and Evening patrols have also increased citywide with a focus on nightclubs, bars, ABC permitting and commercial vehicle issues, which are all part of zoning enforcement.

Beginning spring 2009 Code Enforcement will extend the hours of operation during daylight hours to provide better coverage of code issues occurring after 5pm. These resources will be targeted to address specific problems.

A city stakeholder's group is currently considering the adoption of a new non-residential building code that would have the effect of giving Code Enforcement more jurisdictional authority over commercial buildings.
