Code Violation Database

Does anyone else notice that when you call/send in code violations, sometimes they don't appear on the code violations database site? Today I drove a 1 mile radius of my home and noted a whopping 33 code violations..... these are only the ones that were ridiculously obvious. I will be submitting them tonight, and keeping my eye on the database to see if they appear. Several times in the past, they have not. I guess they magically disappeared. Just wondering if any of you have experienced the same. With the deplorable conditions in our area, I believe it may be time that we start bombarding city council with complaints. I know that code enforcement is obviously under staffed, but some of the violations I saw today should be completely obvious to any enforcement officer in the area. I have also noticed that on the database, very few of the resolutions end in notices of violation. Seems that most of the cases are somehow no longer a problem once enforcement gets to them.

Calling 311 is gambling. Some get dropped because when you all 311 they get put into the wrong system. There are three systems with three different types of ref #'s . 1 for police 1 for zoning & 1 for code enforcement. Typically if it goes to the wrong system, they just close it out and don't forward to the correct dept. When I call in I always ask for th ref # even if I don't write it down. That way you know if they submitted it or not. I don' know why so many disappear, but I have had it happen plenty over the years!

I always try to use 311 online if I can (typically daytime POL, grass, or trash stuff) Usually shows up on the code enforcement database if you do it online. It helps avoid the headache of dealing with people who aren't trained or who don''t know how to input or know which system to enter the violations into. A lot of operators argue when you just want to get the darn thing entered.

In addition to using the online 311 to report violations, I have now starting taking my digital camera and taking pictures which I send along withthe complaint to code. Seems to get better action.
