Myth about evergreen being made into a ballfield

In the 90's there was huge battle to protect the woods now known as Evergreen Nature preserve from being devloped as ballfields. I recently learned that it was an unsubstantiated fear. The land identified as a sports complex was no the same land as the nature preserve. The land that was slated for the ballfields was on the otherside of norland Rd, betwenn Eastway middle school and the Medford Acres neighborhood. According to someone who supported the ballfields, the Eastway park residens thought it would cut into the woods behind their property - when it fact it wouldn'tThey fought so hard, that they actually got the project stopped and got the land behind their houses turned into a nature preserve. As a result $37 million was spent on N. Tryon instead of the woods behind Eastway Middle School, and today there is not a new sports complex
