Boulevard Homes demolition = more Section8 in east Charlotte

900 residents are expected to be displaced when Boulevard Homes are demolished on West Blvd. Where will they all end up in east Charlotte in section-8 properties. As we all know east Charlotte has become the dumping ground for section 8. Here are the minutes from the the minutes from the May 13 2009 HAND meeting:

- CHA denies section-8 has a higher crime rate than other rental properties. Please note that in 2007 when former Major David Graham released his study to the public at the 2005 District 5 Town Hall Meeting at Hickory Grove Church, John Bordsen the president of Coventry Woods Neighborhood Association ripped the report apart. Mr Bordsen then proceeded to make his own stunningly detailed presentation which showed crime was positively correlated with section 8. In fact Graham's study also found a positive correlation which Graham insisted was "insignificant" because there was no proof the correlation was a causal relationship. It is important to clarify that a correlation does not need to have a proven causal relaionship in order to be "significant". Graham did find crime was higher within 100ft of a section-8 property but it was insignificant because it was unclear whether the section-8 tenants were more likely to be victims of crime vs. perpetrators of crime'. It is obvious that whether it is "causal" or not there is a significant correlation. Common sesne indicates that the people in section-8 are not more likely to be the victims of crime at the hands of their more affluent neighbors, than their more affluent neighbors are to be victims of crimes commited by section-8 renters. DUH - So while we can't PROVE causality, common sense would tell us Section-8 housing = more crime Strrangely enough, immediately upon Chief Rodney Monroe taking office, he readily acknowledged the problems with section 8 and the *significant* correlation with crime. Also it's interesting to note CHA cited the older 2007 study rather than chief Monroes' more recent study that follows common sense and the sentiments of the public
